Protecting Taxpayers
Connecticut is over-reliant on property taxes, so one of my jobs in the legislature is to protect our town funding, so that your property taxes don't go up. Some of the ways I've succeeded in this are:
* STOPPED the state's plan to shift teacher pensions on to towns, saving each of our towns millions of dollars per year, which would have ultimately caused homeowners to pay more in property taxes each year, without getting any new services.
*STOPPED the multi-billion dollar Hartford bailout under Governor Malloy
* In 2017, I authored a bill to end the state income tax on social security, pensions, and annuities, which went in to effect this year. The full phase-out of those state income taxes is 2025.
*Consistently supported town aid funding to keep local budgets from ballooning out of control, thereby keeping your property taxes down.
